Tamara Harding is the sparkling designer behind Mara Made Designs (MMD). Here is a snippet of 300 seconds with her:

Fortress: Which comes first as you decide what to make – the material, location, imagination, or a customers request?

MMD: For commissioned pieces the request comes first, then I find a suitable slab of wood (which the customer may have to wait months for because I dont cut any trees down), then I design and carve the piece. If its a piece Im making for my collection, I will spend sometimes weeks contemplating and deciding on its design because its crucial for me that I preserve the uniqueness and amazing qualities of each slab of wood.

Fortress: In Jamaica, the land of wood and water, what’s your favourite wood to work with?

MMD: I love them all but Mango, Guango, Pimento and Tamarind have the best grain movement and always have me squealing like a child when I slice into them.
